I was born In the desert. I never saw my mother or father. They
died in the desert. When I was crawling age I went to Christmas
Creek Station. I was promised to an old man, he had two wives.
We had no clothes. All our family who were already living at
the station gave us clothes. We were all frightened. The station
manager was hitting people so we ran away. The police tracked
us down and put chains around the men. They tied my husband
up. Then I worked at the main quarters for the police - collecting
eggs and washing plates.
